  Education:
Tom Swift was educated in Music Performance and Sound Technology at S.U.N.Y at Fredonia and the Eastman School of Music. During this time he performed with many ensembles and organizations including the Erie and Buffalo Philharmonic orchestras, the Tommy Dorsey band, Spyro Gyra, and the Eastman and Fredonia Jazz ensembles. Two degrees received during this time.Tom

Teaching:
From 1978 through 1980 he taught sound technology at the Center for Audio Studies, alongside mentor Berklee professor David Moulton (Golden Ears Audio Training), SUNY Fredonia and the NYU Undergraduate Film Department.

Work History:
In 1980 he joined the staff at Record Plant Studios, NYC, during which time he worked on hundreds of studio recording projects as well as live recording with Record Plant Remote recording. In 1984 Tom started Swift Kick Productions. Since that time, he has worked with hundreds of artists and producers worldwide, and has worked extensively in major studios in Europe, South America, the USA and Japan.

Tom has done work in many genres of music-classical, rock, pop, jazz, commercial production and film. Some of his film credits include: The Devils Own, Beautiful Girls, Postcards From the Edge, Tieta, Flirting With Disaster and The Color Of Money (where he worked with contributing artists Robert Palmer), Eric Clapton, Don Henley, Mark Knoffler and Robbie Roberson -among others. Album credits include; AC/DC, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Eric Clapton, Tania Maria, Madonna, Caetano Velosa, Peter, Paul & Mary, Rolling Stones, and Paquito D'Rivera. Recent projects include recordings with the Mingus Big Band, Yaron Gershovsky (Manhattan Transfer), the NYU Jazz Orchestra with Teo Macero, Bob DeVos, Don Friedman, the Pizarelli Brothers, Fernando Otero, Nick Danielson , Udi , a release of live recordings with Buddy Rich and his famous "Killer Force" band and has been produced "The Vanguard", an explosive Indie/Pop/Alternative Band, from New York City.
 

Muscle Shoals:
 
From August 2009 through August 2011, Tom filled the position of chief engineer for Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Fame is world renowned for for creating "The Muscle Shoals Sound", an amalgamation incorporating "Rhythm and Blues", "Southern Rock", "Southern Soul" and "Country Soul".
 
In "The Shoals" Tom worked with artists such as James LeBlanc, Jason Isbell, Gary Nichols, Matt Stell and the Crashers, Angela Hacker, The Ugli Stick, Eddie James Ministries. In 2011 he returned to his home base in NY to continue new projects with New York based artists Paquito D'Rivera, Yaron Gershovsky (Manhattan Transfer), the David Eastman Band and the Mingus Big Band.
 
He is a eight time Grammy nominee (including Best Jazz recording for recordings with Miles Davis in 1987 and the Mingus Big Band in 2005). In 1999 he was Grammy nominated for best Latin Pop recording (Donato Poveda) and in 1986 was Academy nominated for best soundtrack for The Color Of Money. His work with Paquito D'Rivera won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz album. Tom also received a Grammy in 2011 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for the Mingus Big Band Live at Jazz Standard.
